The results of the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) Trends Survey for the 3rd quarter of 2005 show a dip in orders for the sector over the summer, but respondents expect a recovery in the final period of the year The key points of the survey, to which there were 94 respondents from across the Association, were: Order intake was -2% lower than in the 2nd quarter of the year; all three sections of the Association saw a reduction; The Machinery Importers' and Equipment Suppliers sections expect a higher level of orders in the 4th period, so despite some pessimism in the Machinery Manufacturers' section, the respondents overall predict that orders will be +2% up on the 3rd quarter; The percentage balance for business confidence (see note 2) in the 3rd quarter of 2005 was -8%, due mainly to some negative sentiment in the Machinery Importers' Section; this compares with -4% in the 2nd quarter and 0% in the 1st period of 2005
