Following recent successes in the Russian marketplace after last year's seminar missions to Russia, the MTA - with the support of UK Trade and Investment - opened a representative office in the World Trade Centre, Ekaterinburg, on the 1 February 2006 Ekaterinburg - 'capital of the Urals' - is at the heart of the Urals manufacturing region; it is within easy reach of Perm, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Samara and Izhevsk - cities that dominate the Russian aerospace, automotive, power and military industries

A city of great historical importance, Ekaterinburg is renowned as the centre of metal production in Russia and was a closed city until 1991 because of its manufacturing importance to the Russian army.

It has a population of about 1.5 million people and is considered the third major Russian city after Moscow and St.

Petersburg.

The World Trade Centre, located nearby by the British Consulate, is close to the centre of the city and has the benefits of being a modern building with its own 1600m2 exhibition space.

It's fully equipped with broadband direct and Wi-Fi internet access.

The office itself will accommodate the office Director, an office Manager and Director's personal assistant and technical translator.

There is sufficient space to operate a 'hot desk' for visitors.

We are very pleased to have engaged Dr Igor A Bazhenov (49) as the MTA Russia Representative Office Director.

Dr Bazhenov, a fluent English speaker, gained his Doctorate in the optimisation of metal cutting processes for gearbox manufacture from the Manufacturing Engineering and Technology Department of the Urals State Technical University (USTU).

He has until recently been Associate Professor of the Engineering Management Department of USTU and has worked for several years as a consultant to many of the large manufacturing plants in the region and also in the United States.

Contact details for the office and its website, Dr Bazhenov's direct line and email address will be publicised in due course.

In the meantime, enquiries about the office and how to join our development of the Russian marketplace should be directed to Dr John L Collins at the MTA.
