MTA said that it has also welcomed the splitting of the Department of Education and Science into two separate departments.
One will focus on schools and families and the other on skills, innovation and universities.
The MTA believed that the UK skills agenda iis absolutely crucial to future success and that a fundamental review of UK schools' performance is a main requirement.
Geoff Lloyd, president of MTA, said: "The skills base of our country is the foundation of its future.
Gordon Brown recognises this by creating the new Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills, which will have the ambitious target of implementing the extremely important Leitch Report.
It is also imperative that the new department looking after schools brings up the general level of young people coming into the workforce, for industry needs the right people to build on to keep the UK prosperous." Lloyd added: "It is also great news that Sir Digby Jones has become the new Minister for Trade promotion.
He did an excellent job for 'UK Plc' at the CBI (Confederation of British Industries) and I know he will carry on doing this in Government.
It has been a very positive start from our new Prime Minister, now we look forward to seeing the actions.".
