Neville Chamberlain, Chairman of The Manufacturing Institute, said: "These awards, which are to become an annual event, recognise the hard work, commitment and achievements that the region's manufacturers are making to improve their performance and competitiveness.
By applauding the success of some of the North West's outstanding performers, we hope that we go some way to acknowledging the importance of the contribution these businesses make to the region's economy and future prosperity.
Presenting the prizes was Bryan Gray, Chairman of the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA), sponsors of the award scheme.
He said: "The Manufacturing Institute's first 'Accelerating the Transformation Awards' salute a vibrant group of manufacturing pioneers, who are so vital to our regional economy.
With their drive for continuous improvement, entrepreneurial zest and downright hard work, they are a shining example to others." Shortlisted companies included: BAE Systems of Samlesbury; Westinghouse of Springfields, near Preston; CHK of Crewe; Hawke International of Ashton-under-Lyne, Hills Panel Products of Oldham and Leigh based Waterfields Bakeries.
