Awards mirror revolution spark in NW

Northwest manufacturers showed that the spark of the industrial revolution still burns brightly in the region as reflected in awards presented during an Accelerating the Transformation Awards dinner.

Northwest manufacturers showed that the spark of the industrial revolution still burns brightly in the region when they gathered in Manchester on 30 October for the inaugural 'Accelerating the Transformation Awards' dinner, hosted by The Manufacturing Institute Three of the region's brightest stars sparkled on the night

Oldham-based anti-forgery firm Innovative Technology won 'Best Productivity Improvement Impact', world-leading inks company Wolstenholme International of Darwen, Lancashire was saluted for 'Sustaining Continuous Improvement', while electronics manufacturer C-TEC, of Wigan, succeeded in the 'Developing People' category.

Neville Chamberlain, Chairman of The Manufacturing Institute, said: "These awards, which are to become an annual event, recognise the hard work, commitment and achievements that the region's manufacturers are making to improve their performance and competitiveness.

By applauding the success of some of the North West's outstanding performers, we hope that we go some way to acknowledging the importance of the contribution these businesses make to the region's economy and future prosperity.

Presenting the prizes was Bryan Gray, Chairman of the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA), sponsors of the award scheme.

He said: "The Manufacturing Institute's first 'Accelerating the Transformation Awards' salute a vibrant group of manufacturing pioneers, who are so vital to our regional economy.

With their drive for continuous improvement, entrepreneurial zest and downright hard work, they are a shining example to others." Shortlisted companies included: BAE Systems of Samlesbury; Westinghouse of Springfields, near Preston; CHK of Crewe; Hawke International of Ashton-under-Lyne, Hills Panel Products of Oldham and Leigh based Waterfields Bakeries.
