New MSc to shape future manufacturing
leaders

An MSc in Manufacturing Leadership was launched in 2005 to help companies develop the high calibre people they need to compete in an increasingly competitive global market place.

An MSc in Manufacturing Leadership was launched in autumn 2005 to help companies develop the high calibre people they need to compete in an increasingly competitive global market place The degree course is being delivered by The Manufacturing Institute and awarded by the 6-star Lancaster University Management School

The programme focuses on wealth generation and innovation through leadership - helping individuals to sharpen their skills ready to address the key issues to be faced at the formation, development, growth and maturity stages of their companies.

The two-year course, with an additional six months for the dissertation, will include a range of teaching methods including highly interactive e-learning, taught workshops, individual tutoring, written project work and access to world class manufacturing enterprises through best practice factory visits.

It has been designed to minimise workplace disruption with only 15 days off-site training a year.

"The MSc course offers a unique opportunity to forge practical Manufacturing Institute know-how with leading edge academic insight to gain a prestigious qualification from an internationally renowned management school, " said Dr Julie Madigan, chief executive of the Manufacturing Institute.

"As with all the Manufacturing Institute's educational programmes, we see this as being of direct benefit not only to the individual but also to their company as the activities are centred on the resolution of in-company issues, with the focus always on bottom-line improvement".

"It is suitable for individuals from a wide variety of manufacturing backgrounds and for all manufacturing sectors".

"However, they will be expected to have a strong track record and be educated to degree level or equivalent." The new course is the latest in a range of education, training and development programmes delivered by the Manufacturing Institute to further manufacturing excellence.

These also include a Diploma in Manufacturing and training in team leader development and lean production.

A limited amount of scholarship funding is available to eligible students applying to join the MSc course from North West manufacturing organisations.
