NW Manufacturers Get Boost From Summit
Over 500 manufacturers from across the North West of England gathered at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on 24 October for the second Manufacturers' Summit.
Over 500 manufacturers from across the North West of England gathered at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on 24 October for the second Manufacturers' Summit to hear Jacqui Smith, Minister for Industry and the Regions announce the launch of The Manufacturing Institute's ?18 million "Agenda for Change" in partnership with The Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) The Agenda for Change is a three-year action programme that will boost productivity by about ?50 million in Northwest manufacturers

The Agenda for Change consists of an integrated range of activities identified by manufacturers themselves to address key issues relating to process improvement, investment, innovation, skills development and recruitment to manufacturing as well as the development of a more positive image for manufacturing with the media.
Neville Chamberlain, Chairman of The Manufacturing Institute opening the Summit said, " The Agenda for Change will help to accelerate the transformation within manufacturing here in the North West." The Agenda for Change includes: Increased market penetration of productivity projects by size of company, sector and sub-region and increased sub-regional working and partnership so as to reach a greater number of smaller companies.
Increased duration and scope of Manufacturing Advisory Service projects.
Activities to support investment in machinery, new technology and new product development as they effect productivity Activities to support sustainable improvement.
Activities to attract recruits to manufacturing and develop skills.
Activities to develop a positive image of NW manufacturing with the media.
