Developed specially for operating in clean environments, a linear encoder is made for accurate positioning of workpieces in extremely hostile machining and cutting applications.

A new linear encoder, developed specially for operating in clean environments has been shown for the first time at EMO 2005 (Hannover, 14-21 September 2005) by Newall Measurement Systems The scale and reader head of the Newall MLG series of linear encoders are manufactured from stainless steel

In response to requests from food, pharmaceutical and medical packaging manufacturers, who require high accuracy positioning equipment that is capable of operating in 'clean in place' applications, Newall Measurement Systems has developed the MLG series.

All signal variants of the existing MHG range of incremental encoders will now be available in stainless steel.

These linear encoders will also be ideal for accurate positioning of workpieces in extremely hostile machining and cutting applications.

The inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel, coupled with its strength and durability make the new MLG series on linear encoders the most rugged available.

In common with all other encoders manufactured by Newall, the MLG series is IP67 (NEMA 6) rated.

This high level of ingress protection, coupled with the stainless steel construction, makes the MLG series suitable for use wherever process automation or machining systems require periodic washdown, due to the nature of materials being handled.

Newall linear encoders are used in a variety of machining applications.

The encoders can be used to measure the position of a workpiece, component or sub-assembly in terms of incremental, distance coded or absolute position, at measurement accuracies of up to 3 micron and traverse speeds as high as 30m/s.
