Centre supports modelling and simulation
A UK centre of excellence in Design Modelling and Simulation has been launched by National Metals Technology Centre in partnership with Corus' Swinden Technology Centre.
Great news for UK manufacturers who will now be able to benefit from much-needed support in research and development as a new centre of excellence in Design Modelling and Simulation has been launched by National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) in partnership with Corus' Swinden Technology Centre (STC) The DMS centre, supported by Yorkshire Forward, will provide engineering solutions to regional companies faced with rising material and energy prices and continued exposure to competitive threats from lower wage economies

Testing the toughness of materials will be the subject of a one day seminar organised by NAMTEC in conjunction with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
Website visitors can access 10,000 pages on metals
The National Metals Technology Centre has added a powerful search tool to its website enabling site visitors to search over 10,000 pages of metals related information in a single search.
The centre, which is based in South Yorkshire, is designed to support the growth of regional and national manufacturers, giving them a competitive edge and assisting them in securing new high-value contracts.
Design Modelling and Simulation centre manager at NAMTEC Adam Beagles explained: "The new technical centre will allow manufacturers to access new state of the art simulation techniques at a fraction of the cost of developing new products and materials in-house".
"We are excited about what this means for the engineering and manufacturing community and we are hoping the centre will become a hub for research and development in engineering, materials and manufacturing modelling." NAMTEC offers a bureau style modelling and simulation service, which will include the following.
* Virtual Reality techniques.
* Casting and solidification.
* Structural and life-modelling.
* Thermo-mechanical process and heat treatment.
* Energy management (furnace optimisation and control).
* Factory layout, product and process flow, scheduling.
NAMTEC is inviting manufacturers to see for themselves the positive impact that DMS technology can have on a business at a special event.
The Virtual Engineering Workshop, which will be held on 29th November at NAMTEC in Rotherham, will give businesses the chance to take a tour of the DMS centre and to hear from other manufacturers how the use of simulation techniques has made them more innovative, dynamic and productive.
