Modelling and simulation saves money
Advanced design, modelling and simulation technology solved many manufacturing issues and reduced production costs for one product by almost GBP 500,000/year.
Businesses showed how sophisticated Design, Modelling and Simulation (DMS) technology had saved them hundreds of thousands of pounds at an enlightening launch event for the new DMS centre at NAMTEC (National Metals Technology Centre) in South Yorkshire, UK Dennis Slater from Firth Rixson Forgings described how this innovative technology had solved many manufacturing issues and reduced the company's costs in the production of just one product by almost half a million pounds per year

NAMTEC awarded ISO 9001 Registration
The UK's National Metals Technology Centre has been awarded the coveted ISO 9001 Registration after a year of concerted effort led by Barrie Gostelow, head of Project Management NAMTEC.
As Adam Beagles, Design Modelling and Simulation centre manager at NAMTEC, explained: "The DMS centre gives businesses access to new state of the art simulation techniques at a fraction of the cost of developing new products and materials in traditional ways.
We are excited about what this means for UK engineering and manufacturing companies and expect the centre to become a hub for research and development in engineering, materials and manufacturing modelling." NAMTEC is already working with a wide range of regional and national businesses to develop exciting new products that should enable manufacturers to secure new high value contracts on an international basis.
The DMS centre is supported by Yorkshire Forward and run in partnership with CORUS Swinden Technology Centre (STC) to provide engineering solutions to regional companies faced with rising material and energy prices and the continued exposure to competitive threats of lower wage economies.
NAMTEC offers a bureau style modelling and simulation service, which will include the following.
* Virtual Reality techniques.
* Casting and solidification.
* Structural and life-modelling.
* Thermo-mechanical process and heat treatment.
* Energy management (furnace optimisation and control).
* Factory layout, product and process flow, scheduling.
