Powered tooling and two Y-axis cross feeds scored
In a subcontrator's view, its latest mill/turn centre stands out for its powered tooling ability to mill and drill and in particular, through the added flexibility from its two Y-axis cross feeds.
Two CNC lathes equate to eight cam automatics
When Target Sports bought its first Citizen B12 Type V, CNC sliding headstock lathe, it wanted to machine high quality brass dart bodies - it was quickly followed by a second machine.
The machine is now able to accommodate more complex mill/turned parts up to 20 mm diameter involving simultaneous machining with up to two tools.
Shown for the first time at MACH 2004 the L20 Type VIII, which is available from NC Engineering of Watford, is now able to carry up to 21 tools.
Five tools are reserved for turning, seven driven tools are available for front machining and three live tools each for internal, back and front operations and back internal machining.
In line with the improved operational flexibility, a new driven three tool spindle can be interchanged with three front face cutting tools simply by turning the unit through 90deg.
In addition, a cross-spindle can be designated for additional turning tasks by utilising a special Citizen adapter unit.
As part of the improvements in the rigidity of the machine the axis slideway casting now incorporates a heavier design with new methods of clamping the driven tools.
This has enabled a 25 per cent increase to 1kW for the power of the driven tools to be accommodated which allows tools up to 8mm diameter to be used.
The fully servo-controlled L20 Type VIII has a machining length of 200mm and a 20 to 10,000 revs/min 3.7kW spindle drive.
The back spindle has a 1.5kW, 200 to 8,000 revs/min motor.
Driven tool speeds are fully programmable between 200 and 4,500 revs/min.
