Adhesives eliminate priming watersports products
A new range of adhesives is specifically aimed at meeting the extreme demands of watersport equipment manufacturers and eliminate primers.
In a move to address this issue, a series of development and test programmes were conducted which identified Dunlop Nitrile S1588 as the answer to this application's challenges.
Dunlop Nitrile S1588, which provides the benefit of minimal surface preparation and the elimination of a time consuming abrasion process, is used to bond many of the gangway bellows sub-components and has therefore enabled significant labour savings.
The particular challenges of this application including the rather inert surface of elastomer compounds employed and the necessary rapid 'tack dry' and bond closure times demanded to ensure optimised production have been successfully met by Dunlop Nitrile S1588.
An additional advantage provided by Dunlop Nitrile S1588 is its ability to solvent activate dried adhesive film, which has allowed Woodville Polymer Engineering to investigate further enhancements to the production process providing potentially greater cost benefits.
Dunlop Nitrile S1588 has also eliminated the discolouration on ageing that previous adhesive systems caused.
Woodville Polymer Engineering's successful use of high performance Dunlop Nitrile S1588 has resulted in its introduction into general production and it is envisaged that all product lines will share in the benefits of this application.
Intervehicle gangways manufactured by Woodville Polymer Engineering using Dunlop adhesive have been supplied to rail operators as far afield as the Far East.
