High speed VMC produces small mould tools
A 5-axis, vertical-spindle machining centre is designed to machine moulds, including those with intricate cores and cavities, to high accuracy within a 320 x 280 x 300mm working volume.
New from Makino is a 5-axis, vertical-spindle machining centre designed to manufacture moulds, including those with intricate cores and cavities, to high accuracy within a 320 x 280 x 300mm working volume.
Fourth and fifth axes are provided by an integrated rotating/swivelling table.
Designated V22 5XR, the machine is available in the UK through NCMT, sole UK agent for the Japanese manufacturer.
Rapid traverse and maximum cutting feed rate are 20m/min, making this a fast production centre.
Elimination of overhang in all axes, even at the extremes of traverse, promotes high precision machining.
Motion in all axes is guaranteed to deliver straightness and perpendicularity of 3 micron full stroke.
Suitable also for producing a variety of complex parts, such as for the medical industry, even in exotic materials and ceramics, the compact (1500mm wide x 2000mm deep) machine has an 8.4kW/40,000 rev/min spindle with HSK-E32 interface.
It is complemented by Makino's patented core cooling and under-race lubrication system for high-performance applications.
The specification is ideal for intricate work and is capable of achieving superior surface finish.
The standard 30-position automatic tool changer (ATC) can be replaced with a larger 60-tool magazine.
When machining using ATC, tiny differences in level often occur at the boundaries of machined surfaces due to slight variations in tool length.
Polishing out these seams is time-consuming and therefore costly.
To minimise the level differences, Makino provides the option of automatic tool length measuring which positions the tool tip more accurately, resulting in a superior machined finish.
The tool tip position is measured with a low-contact pressure probe, while the spindle nose position is measured with a non-contact sensor.
The Fanuc Pro5 CNC offers intuitive intelligence and nano-interpolative control of the digital AC drives [0.033 microsec/step] in the linear axes.
Fine filigree contours with surface finish up to Ra 0.2 micron can be machined in a mould to dimensional tolerances in the micron range.
The menu-guided control panel has a 180 deg, swivelling colour screen.
Options and modifications enable customer-specific solutions for economic, automated production.
