Remote field eddy current inspection added

A NDT Inspection and Testing product story

One of the UK's largest dedicated inspection service providers, has added remote field eddy current inspection and remote visual tube inspection to its NDT services.

NDT Inspecting and Testing, one of the UK's largest dedicated inspection service providers, has now added remote field eddy current inspection and remote visual tube inspection to its comprehensive portfolio of NDT techniques, which already includes IRIS ultrasonic testing.

As a result, its field services division, which provides on-site inspection services to companies throughout the industrial and process sectors, can now offer the full spectrum of tube testing services for any material or defect condition.

Remote field eddy current testing (RFEC) is an inspection technique which uses low frequency AC and through-wall transmission to inspect pipes and tubes from the inside.

The through-wall nature of the technique allows external and internal defects to be detected with approximately equal sensitivity, unlike conventional eddy current testing, where skin effect considerations limit use to the inspection of only the surface nearest the probe.

The technique, which is quicker and generally requires less surface preparation than ultrasonic methods, is particularly suitable for initial screening.

The remote visual capability is based upon Olympus Iplex technology which incorporates the very latest optical and digital advances.

The image is obtained through Olympus lenses and a high resolution colour CCD camera in the objective end of the instrument, ensuring that images are of the highest quality.

In addition to its comprehensive tube-testing capabilities, the company also offers a range of complementary state-of-the-art inspection techniques, including ultrasonic testing using Time of Flight Diffraction, corrosion mapping systems and Saferad radiography.

These are supported by all conventional NDT techniques from magnetic particle inspection to manual ultrasonic testing.

NDT Inspection and Testing, which was the subject of a recent management buyout from Shell UK, has its headquarters in Queensferry with strategically located operating sites in Sittingbourne, Worcester and Caerphilly.

The company's inspection philosophy is based upon the use of appropriate technology and working closely with customers to understand and address their needs in a reliable and cost efficient fashion.
