Cable reels make wirecloth workplace safer

A Nederman product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 6, 2004

United Wire has installed four Nederman self-retracting cable reels to eliminate trip hazards from its wirecloth production facility.

United Wire is a leading manufacturer of woven wirecloth for screens and filters used in a number of markets including the oil and petroleum processing industries, as well as a variety of military and other commercial applications.

The potential health and safety hazards were obvious to Colin Carstairs, wirecloth operations co-ordinator.

He was aware of Nederman UK's workshop and personal protection products as United Wire was already a satisfied Nederman customer, using a fume extraction unit installed in another production department.

Consequently, Nederman was his first port of call when he set out to track down some self-retracting reels that would stand up to the rigours of an industrial environment.

"It wasn't that we had had any accidents or anything like that," said Colin Carstairs, "but we operate at a high level of safety just like any other industrial organisation, so it is an established policy to seek to eliminate any potential hazards that we identify.

"The extraction unit put Nederman in the frame as a likely supplier and this proved to be the case.

"We've been very satisfied both with the product performance and the service we've received from the supplier".

Six months later and four Nederman units have transformed the situation, with the trailing cables stowed out of the way, ensuring a safe, uncluttered working area.

A new product catalogue and CD of literature are available from Nederman.
