Nikken takes on UK distribution of Elbo Controlli

A Nikken Kosakusho UK product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 22, 2003

Nikken Kosakusho UK is the sole UK distributor for the Elbo Controlli range of presetting machines, high precision tool presetting equipment that were previously supported by Stellram UK.

Nikken Kosakusho UK are pleased to announce that it is the sole UK distributor for the Elbo Controlli range of presetting machines.

This high precision tool presetting equipment was previously supported by Stellram UK.

The agreement between Elbo Controlli and Stellram no longer exists.

Elbo Controlli are based in Italy and have been producing and developing presetting machines since 1983.

Nikken went into partnership with Elbo Controlli late last year.

Our UK team have been fully trained in Italy and are able to offer sales, support and technical expertise on all aspects of the equipment.

The complete range of Elbo Controlli presetters are now on display and ready for demonstration at Nikken's Euro Centre in Rotherham.

Below are detailed specifications and information on Nikken's new range.

Tool presetting machine model E348 and E458 The E348 and E458 have been realized by respecting the principles of ergonomics and simplicity, giving great importance to technological solutions.

The mechanical system, the electronics and the software are dedicated exclusively to tool-measurement functions.

The very close relationship between quality-price and the accuracy of measuring make the E348 and the E458 the only machines in their category.

The Base and column are produced from ground granite.

Both machines have fully interchangeable rotating spindles located accurately using precision roller cages.

The electronics are developed on Flash technology: versatile, powerful and organized.

Tool measurement is taken by use of the Panvision or Toolvision vision-system.

They are exclusively designed for tool measuring.

They can take measurements both manually and automatically.

3 patents: X axis movement system, spindle-interchanging system, universal retention stud clamping (according to standards DIN/UNI/ANSI/ISO/JIS/MAS).

E348 measuring range: X axis 200mm (dia 400), Z axis 500mm.

E458 measuring range: X axis 250 mm (dia 500), Z axis 600mm Tool presetting machine model E238 - the E238 marks a very important turning point in the manufacture of small tool presetters.

ARA and Pulsar versions have been carefully developed and tested at great length in order to give the best possible measuring accuracy combined with repeatability at a very respectable cost.

This innovation of design in the mechanical, electronic and software components has allowed Elbo Controlli to reduce the manufacturing costs of the E238, without any loss of accuracy or reliability.

"streamlined" construction with no counter balance weight and an interchangeable rotating spindle with extreme accuracy, of < 2 micron maximum concentricity error.

Again the base and column are produced from ground granite.

The electronics are developed on Flash technology: versatile, powerful and organized.

E238 ARA: single-gauge (X and Z axes measurements simultaneously displayed, dedicated dial).

E238 Pulsar: Panvision camera vision-system (definable zoom with 20 or 40 enlargements, control bars focusing on two axes X/Z, visualization of measurement on screen).

Toolvision vision system - thanks to their technological resources, Elbo Controlli could have developed for the market an innovative vision system with high quality and reliability.

The Toolvision System can be selected for ELBO Elbo Controlli's E348 and E458 presetting machines.

Elbo Controlli are the exception amongst all the constructors of tool tool presetting and measurement machines for having designed and implemented their own camera vision system.

Assembly System: the camera vision screen of Elbo Controlli is located directly on the support of the pointing system.

This involves a significant ergonomic advantage and ease of reading, as the operator does not need to look away from the tool and observe the position of it on the screen.

The stiffness of both the support system and vertical motions of Toolvision prevents vibrations.

The operator can sight simultaneously both the tool (e.g while pre-adjusting a boring bar) and the image of it on the screen.

Another important advantage is the lighting of the tool by a light visible to the naked eye.

As a result, the measuring area can be searched and found very easily because it is lit up.

Toolvision Electronics: It is based on Elbo Controlli's design, and uses the innovative C-MOS circuit.

Circuits are very easy to inspect, and the cards are easy to replace.

The total absence of external interface cable among the electronic parts ensures great reliability and prevents any accidental damage.

Hardware features: 10.4in colour LCD TFT monitor, 640 x 480 pixel resolution; C-MOS image sensor, 640 x 480, pixel resolution; 6.4 x 4.8mm (40X) screen area of view; 1 æm measure resolution; automatic recognition of the tool direction (left, right, upward or downward); amber coloured LED lighting source; analogue to digital display.

Software features: screen measure display; two focus control rods (X/Z) with peak indicator; analogue scale indicators for identifying the exact X-Z point of collimation: 1 micron resolution, 80 micron width; automatic full-screen measuring mode, 1 micron resolution; mode for automatic measuring of insert radii and angles, 0,01mm and 0,01 deg resolution; manual measuring cycles (radii and angles) with point aided identification and result tracing; you can acquire and keep the tool profile overprinted; video marking of rotating angular grid; you can trace arcs and circles with adjustable diameter on the screen.
