Billed as the most productive - if not one of the most productive automotive plants in Europe - Nissan's Sunderland, UK, plant broke its own production records this week by building its 100,000th new 'Micra' car in just over six months On average, almost 4,000 Micras have driven off the line every week since UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair and Nissan's President, Carlos Ghoan, launched production of the new model in November, 2002
Nissan has increased production volume to keep pace with European customer demand for the new car.
Nissan reports 2003 Micra sales up 48% against 2002.
Managing Director of Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK), Colin Dodge, said: "In the first full year of production of the previous Micra, we built around 150,000 cars.
For the new Micra, we have raised our production capacity to 200,000 units/year.".
