The Northdoor service is aimed at organisations seeking to migrate applications from legacy technologies such as Gupta/Centura, Oracle Forms, Visual Basic 6, RPG, Delphi and PowerBuilder.
The service combines the expertise of Northdoor's hands-on consultants with an automated transformation tool from Metex Corporation.
The service delivers transformed applications at around one-quarter of the cost of an in-house manual re-development.
"A number of software vendors are finding that sales of some of their products are flagging because they are based on technologies now superseded by the greater business benefits of .NET and Java: benefits such as web services, better skill availability and lower support costs," said David Ballard, consultancy director at Northdoor.
"Existing users of products based on these older platforms may also be putting pressure on vendors for upgraded versions".
He continued: "While a complete re-write can be a lengthy and expensive process, Northdoor's transformation service offers savings of hundreds of thousands of pounds and rapid delivery to the business".
With the Northdoor service, transformations can look and feel almost identical to the original system, yet ties with the legacy technology are fully broken meaning the business can then enjoy the many benefits of .NET and Java for years to come.
