Fasteners are adaptable for pressing problems
Bespoke fastener press solutions for mid- and high-volume fastener insertion applications, provide users with any - and every - possible pressing permutation for successful fastener insertion.
Consequently, the company is now using the piercing nuts on other component parts.
The Arnold and Shinjo piercing nuts - from the series PIAS PN, HN, KP and RXM - are used in conjunction with a customised insertion system from Arnold and Shinjo.
Benefits realised are as follows.
* The fastener is placed in an accurately defined position because there's no need for a punched hole - i e, there's no offset between nut and hole.
* By eliminating welding, there's no thermal effect on the sheet - and because there's no weld spatter in the thread or on the sheet surface, there's no need for secondary finishing routines.
Available in the UK exclusively from Northern Precision, Arnold and Shinjo fastener system components are effectively developed as bespoke press systems for mid- and high volume fastener insertion applications.
The systems use punching heads, operating at up to 100 strokes/min, coupled with high-grade dies and seats to provide users with any possible pressing permutation for successful fastener insertion.
In the case of the office furniture customer, the process is integrated into the existing production line.
Two piercing nuts are fastened in a single stroke to the component, which is automatically fed into the system and located in a special jig.
The piercing nuts are currently fed into the system from refillable magazines, which can be replaced by vibratory spiral conveyor if volumes demand.
With four PIAS styles of piercing nuts, Arnold and Shinjo covers a wide range of applications/torque requirements for sheet from 0.6mm to 2.5mm thick.
Installation systems can feature multi fastener distributors for up to eight punching heads, quick action couplings or simple torque testing instruments, while a variety of feeding units offer the continual supply of up to 20,000 fasteners.
* About Northern Precision - accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000, Northern Precision supplies the NP brand of self-clinching fasteners, rivet bushes, sheet nuts, high-strength and broaching fasteners, weld nuts and studs, cage nuts and blind rivets, as well as customised turned and cold-formed components.
