The UK's National Electrical Certification and Training Alliance has added a workshop in Rotherham to give students the opportunity to perfect their practical electrical installation skills.

In response to demands from their customer base, The National Electrical Certification and Training Alliance Limited (NECTA), one of the UK's leading providers of electrical training, has added a workshop to their facilities in Rotherham to give students the opportunity to perfect their practical electrical installation skills.

The workshop covers two floors and has been designed specifically to give students genuine 'hands-on' experience in installation procedures.

On the lower floor there are twelve training booths with both single and three phase supplies installed, where students can practice various installation techniques such as clipping and bending cables, installing ring final circuits, lighting circuits and radial socket circuits.

In addition, once students have carried out their tasks, the booths can then be used for practising inspection, test and certification procedures.

The design of each booth which allows the facing boards to be replaced on a regular basis gives students the opportunity to make numerous attempts at perfecting the required skills.

Indeed, they are expected to achieve a high standard of installation work and will be asked to remove and replace any work that does not meet the required standard.

However, to ensure students have every opportunity to achieve that standard, each individual element of a particular task is repeated three times throughout the duration of the training.

A section of the lower floor has also been specially adapted for delegates to hone their skills at 'chasing out' of a breeze block wall or cutting plasterboard to install sockets.

On the upper floor the workshop boasts a fitted kitchen and a bathroom, complete with shower installation, to give delegates the opportunity to practice installation works within a wholly domestic type of environment.

There is even an area for practising the art of chopping out floorboards in order to lay cable.

Already the facility has attracted a large amount of interest from both companies and individuals who wish to improve or expand their skills or those of their staff.

This is reflected in the range of courses that have been running in the workshop so far from cross skilling to vocation change and even task specific training, the workshop can meet all these needs and more besides.

The workshop is open on certain days for any interested parties with training requirements who would like to view the facilities and see just what the centre has to offer.
