North East-based rapid cut tooling specialist, Omega Plastics UK, has appointed a new business development manager for the South of England and has opened an office in Cambridgeshire Omega specialises in producing injection mould tools in three to 30 days and believes the appointment will help more business from the industrial centres in the Midlands, South East and South Wales

Managing director Paul McMorris said: "With today's headlines about recession, this may seem like a strange time to expand.

However, we have yet to see evidence of a strong down turn at Omega UK and the plan to open up in the south has always been a key part of our strategy." Simon Girdlestone, aged 32, is from Kings Lynn and was latterly an area manager for Husky, based in Coventry.

he was also plant manager for Krauss Maffei in Warrington.

Before becoming a sales engineer at Plashing, Simon served an apprenticeship in toolmaking at Bespak where he worked for six years.

Simon said: "Omega has a great deal of experience in several sectors, most notably, automotive, tele-electronic, medical and consumer goods.

While it already operates in the south, actually having a presence there suggests an extra commitment to existing customers and to other potential customers in the region." Omega Plastics is an Anglo-American joint venture and specialises in the supply of aluminium P20 mould tools in three to 30 days instead of the 12 to 16 weeks it takes with traditional materials and methods.

It can supply production standard injection moulded prototypes and production ready parts within the same timescale.
