Mark Pearson has rejoined Omega Plastics, the resurgent Gateshead, UK-based rapid tooling and low-volume moulding company after leaving the company three years ago due to the lack of prospects under the previous management Now, with a new and enthusiastic management team in place, Omega is seeing a massive increase in demand for low-volume injection moulding from customers who are investing in its rapid tool making service

"In the past few months demand for moulding has increased by over 50%," said Gordon Styles, managing director.

"While we have injection moulding equipment to test the rapid tools we manufacture and to produce small batch pre-production runs, we are now seeing an increase in demand for low-volume production runs." As a result Omega Plastics has increased the capacity available and Pearson's experience combined with his high level of skills, made him the ideal candidate to take on the demanding role of moulding technician.

"The approach of the new management at Omega Plastics certainly influenced my decision to return," said Pearson.

"The company is very much forward looking now and the future looks very promising indeed." The increase in business within the moulding section is being in the rapid toolmaking section, which has recently moved to a two-shift system in order to maintain the rapid response that Omega delivers to its customers.

In many cases tools/moulds can be designed, manufactured and be producing components in less than three weeks.

This is greatly assisted by the one man, one mould philosophy employed at Omega Plastics.
