CAM's advanced collision avoidance benefits 5-axis
Advanced CAM software dynamically finds potential collisions during the calculation process and automatically computes a safe new toolpath, while using predefined tolerances and clearances.
Open Mind Technologies will be demonstrating how the Advanced Collision Avoidance Technology in hyperMILL produces reliable 5-axis toolpaths faster than collision detection systems.
hyperMILL dynamically finds potential collisions during the calculation process and automatically computes a safe new toolpath, without stopping using predefined tolerances and clearances, while considering both the tool and tool holder.
For large and complex components the calculation time can be significant, so producing an accurate toolpath, which is right first time will cut programming time and shorten delivery times.
Further advances in collision avoidance are being introduced in hyperMILL 9.5, which includes adaptive control to produce rounded and balanced movements to further reduce machining times and excessive stress on the machine tool Open Mind Technologies has had considerable success with hyperMILL for 5-axis machining, forging relationships with leading 5-axis machine tool manufacturers including DMG, Agie/Charmilles/Mikron, Hurco, Matsuura, Mazak and YMT, and exceeding its UK sales targets for 2005.
Logic cycles in hyperMILL offer several specialist 5-axis cutter paths, such as including impeller machining and 5-axis port machining, which have been tailored to the requirements of the aerospace and automotive industries.
By using hyperMILL's smoothly linked 5-axis cutter paths, Open Mind's customers have dramatically reduced the amount of resetting required, one customer reported a reduction from 11 set-ups to two.
Other customers have increased accuracy by eliminating errors caused by resetting, cut down on the amount of spark erosion required, and machined more of the job in one hit, thanks to the increased reach provided by the shorter and more rigid tooling employed in their 5-axis machining.
hyperMILL provides the tools to succeed in a competitive market, by making 5-axis machining an every day reality and helping its users to cut costs, shorten delivery times and increase quality.
Open Mind will have a Cybaman Replicator 6-axis Machining System on its stand at MACH 2006 to demonstrate the power of hyperMILL's multi-axis machining.
