Universal EDM forms a wide range of metals
About 200 visitors attended an open day to view a universal EDM that can form all types of materials including graphite, copper, titanium or aluminium up to hardened tool steel.
About 200 visitors agreed in the excellent performance of the OPS 650.
People all over the country found their way to the "open-house" at the "Technology Center" of OPS Ingersoll Funkenerosion in Burbach.
The expectations of this newly designed product are very high, declared the managing director of sales and marketing, Matthias Schmidt.
It closes the space of production range between the two machines OP 600 and OPS 800.
Whereas the OPS 600 is designed as a pure high-speed cutting and finishing machine and the OPS 800 mainly performs cutting and milling of hardened steel the new type can be used for universal works.
Specially for detailed processing and for higher demands in cutting force will be the selling arguments and placement on the international market.
After the proto-type has had the first coming out at the METAV Sud - south in Munich, the series production were presented at the METAV in Dusseldorf, dated 15th until 19th of June.
Nearly all kinds of materials can be shaped with the OPS 650: Starting with graphite, copper, titanium or aluminium up to hardened tool steel.
The OPS 650 sets up the following technical highlights: * Gantry design (fixed workpiece and moving tool) with ranges of X= 700mm, Y= 550mm and Z= 450mm.
* Digital direct drive units onto all axles with processing speed up to 30m/min, acceleration of max.
15m/sec2, and the precision of repetition of 2 microns.
* Optional A-/C-Axis (A= +/-120deg, C = 360deg), which can be covered with the standard table; the optional axis may also be added to a three-axis machine.
* High-Speed-Cutting spindles suitable to HSK E 40 or HSK E 50; rotation speed from 1 up to 42000 1itre/min, power up to 17kW and vectorl control for a multiple purposes (for example boring and thread cutting) * Closed cabin (dust/splashes) - important in wet processing or in machining of graphite material.
* PC-NC Control with 1,2 GHz Twin Processor and an Sercos cycle time of 250 microsec.
* Attenuation equalization is reached with an "Hydropol Bed" and the optimal relation between fixed and moving machine parts (6:1).
* Automatic is available up to a full MoldCenter, but can also be added supplementary.
According to the managing director, Rainer Jung, 12 orders have already been fixes for the new machine, even the machine is not yet officially placed on the market.
OPS Ingersoll in Burbach is one of the leading international companies in offering electrical discharge machines and high-speed-cutting machines.
At the time 120 employees are working at the company.
In spite of the general economical decrease the company counts on an 20 % increase of their turnover.
To keep up this trend is also set in the new OPS 650.
