Orbimatic (UK), a manufacturer of orbital TIG welding equipment, has supplied a package to a leading manufacturer of fork liquid level switches to help reduce product lead times.

Orbimatic has supplied an orbital welding package comprising of an Orbimat 165CB orbital welding power supply, Orbitwin dual weld head switching unit, Orbiweld 76S and Orbiweld 115 enclosed weld head.

This system has been introduced to reduce the time cycle for welding the forks to tubes, mounting bush to tube, flange to tube and also flange to fittings.

The system has been introduced in its standard form with some simple additional tooling for location of the components.

This tooling can be changed within seconds because of the quick action collets system on the Orbiweld weld heads.

Each weld is completed in less that one minute and as the system is computer controlled and stores a large number of welding procedures it allows unskilled operators to use it.

Previously the level switches had to be welded by a skilled welder which added a substantial amount of time to the build time.

The use of an orbital welding system with two weld heads allows a wide range of configurations of level switch to be assembled in any length.

The use of the automatic weld head switching unit has eliminated the need to keep changing weld heads and has allowed lead times to be reduced from several days to several hours and in turn allows the manufacturer to offer a rapid response to customer needs, claims Orbimatic.
