In 1999 Oriental Motor established a lead-free programme, with the first lead-free five-phase stepping motors being delivered at the end of 2001.

In 1999 Oriental Motor, Japan's largest manufacturer of AC and stepper motors, established a lead-free programme, with the first lead-free five-phase stepping motors being delivered at the end of 2001.

Following this initial programme, Oriental Motor is now abandoning lead in the production of all current standard motors.

This early approach has helped the company address one of the primary requirements of the new RoHS directive far earlier than many other companies, indeed, many of its products were RoHS compliant well before the deadline in July 2006.

Oriental Motor now offers a wide range of products conforming to the new RoHS standards - with many of its standard AC motors, BLDC motors, stepper motors and drivers, electric actuators and cooling fans being available in RoHS-compliant versions.

The RoHS-compliant products are marked with a RoHS-label on the product box and, in the product catalogues the specification will be shown with the same mark.

In case of some series the modifications brought out also a technical improvement.

The standard gears for AC-Motors, for example, have now a longer lifetime and remarkably reduced noise.

Depending on the series, the RoHS-compliant products are already available or will be introduced very soon.
