An Outotec product story

Pakistan Cables has decided to increase its copper rod production to 8,000 tonnes/year by ordering a capacity increase from Outokumpu Castform Oy.

Pakistan Cables has decided to increase its copper rod production to 8,000 tonnes/year by ordering a capacity increase from Outokumpu Castform Oy.

This step upwards is achieved by installing a separate melting furnace and an automatic cathode charger in front of the existing combined melting/casting furnace, which then will be converted into a casting furnace only.

Outokumpu has been contracted to supply Pakistan Cables with a capacity increase to its existing Upcast continuous casting system.

The original single-furnace copper rod unit was delivered in 1996 for the production of 2,000 tonnes/year.

After the current expansion, Pakistan Cables has an installed production capacity of 8,000 tonnes/year, with provisions for a future expansion of even up to 12,000 tonnes/year.

The design of the modular Upcast system permits a variety of options for upgrades and modernizations, depending mainly on the user's choice and needs.

The current delivery to Pakistan will consist of a separate melting furnace with a holding volume of 7 tonnes and a newly introduced automatic cathode charging unit, which replaces the old, manual charging system now in use at the Pakistan Cables Upcast plant.

Also required modifications to the casting machine rod withdrawal system and additional rod coilers are inlcuded in the scope of the contract.
