Isotropic steel can lighten hydraulic components
Intended for use in the manufacture of highly stressed hydraulic components, an isotropic steel has high impact strength coupled with high yield strength, leading to lighter assembly weight.
Steel for hydraulics has good impact strength
Designed to achieve the strength required by the hydraulic industry to be able to deliver safer components, a steel has a yield strength of 450MPa and a good impact strength.
Ovako Steel now meets the requirements of QS 9000.
The new certification gives Ovako Steel the prospect of increasing business, mainly with the automotive industry and its subcontractors, but also with other trades that place high demands on their suppliers.
The QS 9000 quality standard, which is currently applied by the automotive industry and its subcontractors, implies a considerable sharpening of the requirements compared to ISO 9000.
The standard poses stringent demands and close supervision to ensure that suppliers adhere to these demands; for example, running audits are held twice a year.
"We have worked hard to reach this objective", says Rolf Neuman, quality manager at Ovako Steel.
"The automotive industry and its subcontractors are important customers to Ovako Steel.
The fact that we now meet the requirements for QS 9000 is of great importance to our business opportunities -both existing and prospective." QS 9000 was developed within the automotive industry and is a common quality standard.
The previous standard, ISO 9000, was considered to give too much room for individual interpretation and application.
Moreover, it did not comply with the specific requirements of the industry.
Ovako Steel was one of the first steel companies in the world to be awarded ISO 9001 certification, which was achieved in 1988.
In 1999 Ovako Steel was also awarded the environmental management certificate ISO 14001.
