Steel for hydraulics has good impact strength
Designed to achieve the strength required by the hydraulic industry to be able to deliver safer components, a steel has a yield strength of 450MPa and a good impact strength.
Ovako Steel launches a new member of its hydraulic steels, Ovahyd 450 with a yield strength of 450MPa.
This new product is intended for the manufacture of hydraulic components with stringent demands on impact strength but where weight is not as critical.
Ovahyd 450 has been developed for the manufacture of cylinders and piston rods subject to heavy stress.
Ovahyd 450 is a low carbon steel, alloyed with Vanadium, to achieve its high strength properties.
Ovahyd 450 from Ovako Steel adds to the existing Ovahyd family members - 600, 650 and 700.
Ovahyd 450 has a good impact strength down to - 20 deg C, longitudinally as well as transversely.
The cleanliness of the steel offers excellent hard chromium plating properties.
Ovahyd 450 is also suitable for nitriding, if components with wear resistance and an easily polished surface are desired.
Ovahyd 450 has a very good weldability because of the low carbon content.
Safer hydraulic components - "Ovahyd 450 adds to our family of advanced hydraulic steels.
The Ovahyd steels are focussed towards companies with stringent demands on steel that enables the manufacture of safer hydraulic components," explains Bjoern Olsson of Ovako Steel.
"It will now be even easier for our customers to find a steel with the right mechanical properties that fits more appropriately the components to be manufactured." The steel has been developed mainly for the manufacture of hydraulic components intended for demanding environments, where high strength and safety are dumper truckrequired but where weight is of less importance.
Ovahyd 450 is suitable for hydraulic cylinders and piston rods for Yellow Goods applications such as dumper trucks and excavators.
The production process gives a clean and strong steel.
Ovahyd 450 is a low carbon steel, alloyed with Vanadium, to achieve its mechanical properties in the normalised condition.
This steel is produced according to an accurate and strictly defined process, giving a very high cleanliness in combination with maximum precision and repeatability.
The other Ovahyd family members -600, 650 and 700 - have yield strengths between 600 and 700MPa, and can be used for similar applications but where the weight is of much greater importance.
Their special properties make it possible to produce hydraulic cylinders with thinner walls and thereby offer the opportunity to make lighter components.
Meet us at IFPE - welcome to discuss Ovahyd 450 with our technicians at the IFPE Exhibition in Las Vegas, USA, March 15-19 2005.
