Flexible car production line gets under
way
Opel started up production of the redeveloped Vectra car on January 7, 2002. The production line at Ruesselsheim, Germany, has a potential to produce 270,000 units, offour different models.

It will be followed in the Summer by the Vectra GTS sports saloon, and later, by the Vectra Signum and Caravan models.
The new plant is foreseen as building the follow-on models of the Omega.
Production of the new Vectra was preceded by a pre-pilot phase in Summer last year, followed by three separate pilot phase runs in the Autumn.
Each phase was accompanied by intensive operator training, begun initially by an 'orientation' training in Autumn 1999.
Focus was firmly on 'Top Quality'.
Opel chief, Carl-Peter Forster, sees the new plant as making new benchmarks in productivity, quality and flexibility.
With the fortunes of the new Vectra, the company hopes to secure 6000 jobs in component manufacture at the Ruesselsheim site.
