CAM software supports 'wiper' inserts
Pathtrace Systems is pleased to announce support for Sandvik Coromant's patented wiper insert for turning with their latest release of EdgeCAM, Version 9.5.
Pathtrace Systems is pleased to announce support for Sandvik Coromant's patented wiper insert for turning with their latest release of EdgeCAM, Version 9.5 Compared to turning with a standard insert, turning operations with a wiper insert can either improve the finish operations by a factor of two, or can hold finish constant while cutting at approximately twice the feed rate

Trochoidal moves speed up roughing cycles
Latest release software that uses new intelligent option that inserts trochoidal moves where required delivers a faster roughing cycle by minimising changes in the cutting direction.
Edgecam chosen for high performance transmission
Faced with an ever-increasing demand for more complex machined surfaces, motor sports supplier, Hewland Engineering, has invested in Pathtrace's Edgecam system.
EdgeCAM now has Sandvik Wiper geometries built in to the software, allowing the user to select the wiper insert catalogue number, and generate toolpaths that automatically take into account the insert's geometric profile.
Manual programming of NC offsets generate an inaccurate toolpath on curves or angular features.
Pathtrace and Sandvik have addressed these concerns with EdgeCAM 9.5.
"All D and T style wiper inserts have nose geometry that does not conform to the ANSI/ISO standard".
"These deviations from the standard nose radius can affect the size and form of your workpiece".
"In the past, compensating for the radius deviation in profiling work was virtually impossible and usually required trial cuts resulting in scrap".
"Now Pathtrace and Sandvik Coromant have teamed up to take the guess work out of this process".
"Pathtrace's EdgeCAM software has been designed to compensate for Sandvik Coromant's patented wiper nose geometry, allowing you to make the right cut, right away," said Bill Tidall, Product Specialist, Sandvik Coromant Company.
Dave Boucher, Product Development Director of Pathtrace comments, "This project will further extend the benefits of our collaboration with Sandvik Coromant and will ensure our turning solutions continue to lead the field".
"Experience has show us that tooling manufacturers and CAM software developers need to work closely together to ensure customers are able to enjoy the benefits of deploying new tooling technologies with optimized machining strategies." * About Pathtrace - Pathtrace Engineering Systems is the developer of EdgeCAM, an extremely powerful but easy-to-use software solution devoted to automating the process of NC programming for metal cutting machine tools.
