A bar puller for CNC lathes works directly from a coolant supply, needs less than 2 bar of pressure and can pull bars ranging from 3-105mm with no adjustments.

PCM Tooling said that a common shop floor problem with CNC lathes is not having enough space for a bar feeder The operator then has to manage the bar or load pre-cut bar blanks or billets

Also the large cost to purchase one can sometimes out-weigh the benefits.

The answer, said PCM, is the Grippex II Bar Puller.

The Grippex II works directly from a coolant supply and needs less than 2 bar of pressure.

PCM told manufacturingtalk.com that the Grippex II can pull bars ranging from 3-105mm - with no adjustments required through the diameter range.

It also clamps very close to the chuck and needs no spindle orientation, even on hexagonal bars.

There are three sizes designed to be accommodated in the machine turret, with straight shank mounting and VDI options.

* Production increased - Wardray Premise, at their Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire, UK location introduced a Grippex II to their production team in 2007.

Wardray said it had gained what was equivalent to a bar feeder but at a fraction of the cost.

Wardray's assistant production manager, Craig Washington, said: "Our production here at Wardray Premise has increased thanks to the Grippex II.

It has meant we can utilise the operator on other tasks, be it bench fitting or the centre lathe, while still monitoring the CNC lathe.

We have also gained a saving by dropping the sawing operations when hand-loading small billets".

PCM Tooling commented that if Wardray's problem sounds familiar, then it is time to consider acquiring a Grippex II Bar Puller.
