High-level walkways can be included on vertical racking to give quick and easy access for stock control and other purposes.
By opting for narrow-aisle racking and a multi-direction sideloader truck for handling the material, Chesterfield Steel Services has maximised the stock it can hold in a relatively small area.
The Pro-Dek racking is configured in two single and three double sided runs with an overall height of 5m, each run consisting of 15 columns with seven 800mm arms per column side, giving eight storage positions including the base leg.
Each arm has a nominal load capacity of 1200kg and can be adjusted in 100mm increments to accommodate changing products.
Heavy-duty floor-mounted guide rails with radiused lead-in sections have been fitted to allow the client's multi-direction sideloader to operate in 1700mm wide aisles, producing a high storage density.
The whole installation accommodates 800 tonnes of steel within approximately 50 per cent of the warehouse, leaving space for possible expansion in the future.
The racking is finished in Ford Blue, with Alert Orange arms and guide rails.
