Adhesives provide freedom of choice
Air conditioning units benefit from the use of adhesive bonding to join a variety of metal and non-metallic materials.
Air conditioning units are generally constructed from multiple, small bore, metal tubes connected via brazed 'U' bends or soldered into header tanks The close proximity of these tubes to each other can make it difficult to achieve both a distortion free and leak free unit because of the heat input required by the assembly process

High temperature adhesives give a reliable bond
A range of single and two-part structural adhesives are capable of operating at continuous temperatures of up to 250 degC.
One manufacturer solved the joining problem associated with the construction of their automotive products by using Bondmaster ESP108.
A glass fibre reinforced nylon header tank was bonded using Bondmaster's epoxy adhesive to the aluminium matrix of the body.
The adhesive bond easily withstands the thermal stresses generated by the service conditions of the heat exchanger and also exhibits excellent resistance to the glycol 'anti-freeze'.
The bonded joints have proved capable of performing satisfactorily beyond the vehicle life.
By using adhesive the product designer can choose from a wider range of materials for the construction of the product.
In the case of the air conditioning unit the designer could use nylon with a lower specific gravity than alternative materials thereby enabling a product of a lower weight to be produced.
