Packtest has become a certified test laboratory of the ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) (Lab No ST-4624)

The packaging and product testing facility opened commercially earlier this year by Paul Curtis Associates, in co-operation with Megger, the electrical test instrument manufacturer, is now the third commercial ISTA Certified Laboratory in the UK.

Paul Curtis, the principal of Packtest, said: "We are extremely pleased to have been certified by the ISTA, and of course to be only the third commercial lab in the UK.

Of all the environmental test procedures and standards worldwide the ISTA, uniquely, provides a co-ordinated approach to pre-shipment testing of packs and products.

The ISTA procedures enable a packer and shipper to quickly, cheaply and reproducibly check that the pack and product combination is suitable for the rigours of modern distribution systems, which is becoming more and more important as internet and home delivery sales increase at their current rate." Packtest's facility is equipped with LAB fixed displacement vibration tables, an LAB precision drop tester, Instron, Chatillon and Lloyd Instruments tensile testing machines, RDE bump test machine, environmental and shock test chambers and other equipment.

With that equipment, Packtest believes that products and packs can be tested to the standard required by ISTA, BS, EN, ISO, DEF STD, MIL, IEC and other worldwide industry, mail order and trade standards.

Additional testing, such as Cobb water absorption, Taber stiffness, Mullen burst, moisture, adhesive peel and others can also be carried out by the company.

Current clients include: B and Q, Baxi Fires Division, Baxi Potterton, Flambeau Europlast and Heatrae Sadia.
