Vibration proof fastener locks nut

A Phil-Lok Fastener product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 3, 2007

Two special washers designed to lock together and couple the nut to the bolt, creating a positive stopping force and a vibration proof fastener, are employed by the Phil-Lok fastener.

Glues, sticky strips, and other chemical bonding agents have been used to increase friction between the nut and bolt threads.

As in the case with lock washers, and nuts with nylon inserts these methods do not provide a positive stopping force against rotation of the nut.

Additionally, nylon inserts, sticky strips and chemicals bonding agents are more susceptible to failure caused by excess heat or corrosive agents.

The Phil-Lok fastener employs two special washers designed to lock together and couple the nut to the bolt creating a positive stopping force and a vibration proof fastener.
