Fastener holds critical torque specifications

A Phil-Lok Fastener product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 2, 2007

In a locking fastener, a slotted ring washer enables the critical torque specification to be held, once the fastener is locked, said the manufacturer.

The Phil-Lok fastener has a ring washer, which has slots spaced at 90 deg apart.

The ring washer is able to engage the tabs of the tab-lock washer every 30 deg.

Since the half way point of 30 deg is 15 deg, the maximum possible offset of the ring washer to the tabs of the tab-lock washer is 15 deg.

The 12 point configuration of the ring washer halves the maximum offset to 7.5 deg.

Since the maximum offset of the ring washer is minimal, critical torque specfic applications can now be maintained, said the manufacturer.
