Digital servo platform has DeviceNet
fieldbus

Manufacturer of motion and control technologies, has extended the performance and functionality of a digital servo platform with the introduction of a new DeviceNet fieldbus option.

The Electromechanical Division of Parker Hannifin, the world's largest manufacturer of motion and control technologies, has extended still further the performance and functionality of its proven Compax3 digital servo platform with the introduction of a new DeviceNet fieldbus option Designed as a powerful, flexible and easy to use intelligent servo drive, Compax3 is ideal for use in a wide range of applications, ranging from complex multi-axis tasks in high speed assembly and process operations, to short production runs where frequent changes of tooling or component parts are required

In addition, Compax3 has been developed to provide an open programming platform, which complies with a wide range of International standards, especially IEC61131-3, and fieldbus protocols, including CANopen, Profibus DP and now, with the launch of the latest option, DeviceNet.

DeviceNet is one of the world's leading device-level protocols for industrial applications and is particularly common in factory automation, where it offers a robust, efficient and relatively low cost method of creating and managing interconnections between simple industrial devices, such as limit switches, sensors, valve manifolds and actuators, and higher level systems, including PLCs, servo drive/controllers and industrial computers.

Fieldbus connectivity eliminates the need for direct hard wiring, permits peer-to-peer communication between devices, and offers the potential for network-wide device-level diagnostics that are not easily accessible or available through hard wired I/O interface systems.

Compax3 is a modular and compact third generation intelligent servo drive that is simple to programme, setup and use.

Based on scaleable technology, Compax3 drives can be used to solve a wide range of application types.

With power ratings from 1kVA to 20kVA, Compax3 drives supports synchronous-, asynchronous-, linear- and torque-motor technologies, plus a wide range of feedback options including resolver, encoder single/multiturn SinCos and incremental analogue encoder with Sine-Cosine signals.

In addition, the use of the IEC61131-3 programming language, with integrated PLCopen modules, enables Compax3 to be used for both motion control and logic functions, providing the flexibility to construct machine monitoring systems to meet the exact needs of each application.

To assist the users of Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, an application note has be generated which provides full details on the connection and operation of the Compax3 servo drives with these devices via DeviceNet. Request a free brochure from Parker Hannifin Electromechanical Automation ...
