Roof safety matting survives hurricane
force winds

Remarkable wind tunnel tests have proved that Crossgrip roof safety matting remains stable well in excess of hurricane force winds.

Remarkable wind tunnel tests have proved that Crossgrip roof safety matting remains stable well in excess of hurricane force winds Tests were recently carried out by the University of Hertfordshire to establish the wind conditions necessary to lift the Crossgrip matting away from the roof surface

UK manufacturer Plastic Extruders thought it important to satisfy a customer who wanted to use Crossgrip at high level in a seaside location.

This was in spite of the fact that there have never been any reports of the matting moving due to high winds.

The consultancy report states that Crossgrip was unaffected and did not slide or lift for the full wind speed range of the tunnel which was just in excess of 100mph.

Above that speed, the leading edge of the matting showed a very few millimetres of vertical oscillation.

By repeating the experiment, the scientists were able to register a totally consistent performance.

Crossgrip 100 per cent PVC open grid matting is designed for flat roofs and gantries to provide safe all-weather walkways and also to protect the roof covering.

The matting is self-draining, resistant to bacterial growth and maintenance-free.

It is supplied in 10m long rolls and widths or 60, 91 and 122cm and, when necessary, can easily be cut and shaped on site.

Samples of Crossgrip and a copy of Wind tunnel testing of roof walkway mats are available from Plastic Extruders. Request a free brochure from Plastic Extruders ...
