Filtration system eliminates hard chrome pitting
A three-year project to develop a low-effluent hard chrome plating plant has dramatically improved the quality of the hard chrome plating by introducing a high-pressure filtration system.
York Towbars managing director Ian Macdonald says that convenience (the company is also based in Southampton, adjacent to the Poeton works) and the reassurance of having its towbars coated by a company that specialises in surface treatments for the aerospace, automotive and industrial markets, was the motivation for the joint venture.
Commenting for Poeton Industries, Barrie Poeton says research indicates that black is the predominant colour for powder coating, which means that the additional capacity will enable the facility to offer almost 'instant' powder coating in black, with other colours available subject to normal volume and turnaround considerations.
He adds that a second powder-coating module is planned for the near future, specifically to meet the demand for other colours and smaller quantities.
