The ICT 1 inductive conductivity sensor from ProMinent Fluid Controls can be used in conjunction with the company's 'Cool-Control' system for fully automatic desalination control in cooling towers The ICT 1 is designed for use in all types of soiled water and has a conductivity measurement range of 0.2-1000 mS/cm

The sensor operates at temperatures up to 70andnumber730;C, with full temperature compensation and the maximum pressure rating is 8 bar at 40andnumber730;C and 1 bar at 70andnumber730;C.

As water evaporates in the water tower, the ICT1 measures the increasing salt concentration through the increasing conductivity.

When a preset upper level is reached, the Cool-Control system opens a valve and the water drained and fresh make up water introduced until the conductivity drops to a preset lower level.

The Cool-Control system can be used for all water treatment processes involved in cooling towers including inhibitor dosing and biocide metering as well as desalination.

Cool-Control can accept a number of signal inputs and has several output control channels, as well as featuring an integral day/week timer and interlock facilities.

A clear display shows various process parameters.

The unit can also control calibrated pumps for dosing inhibitor using an input signal from, for example, a contact water meter.

Two independent biocide dosing pumps can also be controlled, usually on a timer basis.
