Audi to use high strength rivet nuts in vehicles
Profil RSN and RND high strength rivet nuts will be used by Audi in a safety-critical bonnet latch mounting application on its latest generation A4 and A5 vehicles.
Featuring a universal rectangular nut with a circular cross section shank, the new URN nut offers an optimum balance between cost and ultimate mechanical performance.
This rivet fastener achieves push out, torque and shear load capabilities superior to traditional pierce or rivet nuts, but at a significantly lower cost.
As a result, it is an ideal choice for general fastening applications across a broad spectrum of sheet metal working applications.
URN nuts can be installed in stand-alone riveting operations or by using custom-developed, automatic feeding and setting equipment in-press as part of the component manufacturing process.
"The new URN nuts fill a gap in our product range for an attractively-priced, general purpose sheet metal fastening system," commented Profil UK's sales manager, Adrian Ellis.
"Like other Profil pierce and clinch fasteners, they offer significant cost and quality advantages over traditional assembly methods.
Unlike welded fasteners they are equally suitable for painted and coated materials and can be installed either automatically or by low skilled operators.
I believe the new fasteners will prove extremely popular throughout the domestic appliance, heating and ventilation equipment, lighting, enclosures and sheet metal equipment sectors, as well as in our traditional automotive industry markets." * About Profil UK - based in Coalville, Leicestershire, Profil UK draws on more than 30 years experience in the development and application of pierce fastening technology.
The company offers a comprehensive range of fastener styles and installation equipment all backed by ISO TS 16959 certification and is a principal supplier to customers throughout the automotive, domestic appliance and sheet metal fabrication sectors. Request a free brochure from Profil UK ...
