Stud ensures accurate assembly
positioning

To ensure accurate positioning and high strength threaded fixing of components in sheet metal assemblies, a stud is for dynamic, static and shock load applications in 0.6mm-4.0mm thick materials.

Pierce and rivet fastening specialist, Profil UK, has introduced a derivative of its NBR stud to ensure accurate positioning and high strength threaded fixing of components in sheet metal assemblies The company's existing 14mm diameter plain NBR studs provide precise location of front sub-assembly assemblies

Using this experience, Proil's latest studs are used on BMW 'Mini' cars for dynamic, static and shock load applications in materials from 0.6mm-4.0mm thick.

The studs have a large flange head for exceptional pull through performance and are equally suitable for plain or coated raw materials in aluminium, steel, stainless, magnesium and high strength steel.

They enable high strength, watertight fixings to be achieved with an absolute positional accuracy of +0.2 mm.

The new NBR stud variant also incorporates a shouldered design for precise component location.

Also, for use with high speed nut running equipment, the stud has a generous thread lead-in.

The stud can be automatically inserted in pressed components as part of their production process - like most of Profil's fasteners.

Another European vehicle manufacturer has also specified the new stud to streamline the location and retention of new model car door hinges.

Profil UK's sales manager, Adrian Ellis, said: "The assured accuracy and consistent placement of our products in every component is ideal for robot- or machine vision-based automated assembly methods.

Furthermore, their load carrying capabilities and corrosion resistance all contribute to the exceptional cost and quality benefits our pierce fastening technology offers over traditional welded or threaded fixing methods".
