Large, precision chucks are up to 1m
size
Large chucks - up to 1m - are now being produced for high quality, high accuracy turning, providing minimum set up times, maximum gripping force and ease of use.
In response to demand from its customers, Pratt Burnerd International (PBI), renowned world-wide as the premier designer and manufacturer of workholding systems for lathes, is introducing a new standard range of big chucks, up to 1m PBI is manufacturing the chucks at its 5,000m2 plant in Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK

Programmable power chuck reduces set-up times
Programmable power chuck, that provides far greater versatility and a significant reduction in setting up times, will be shown at the UK's Productivity Partnership in the North exhibition.
The company has installed additional machine tools to provide additional machining capacity.
The new chucks have been developed by Pratt Burnerd's design engineers, based at its headquarters in Halifax.
Working with the latest CAD technology, the department had created a range of ingenious chucks which gives the user minimum set up times, maximum gripping force and weight/size capability combined with ease of use.

Chuck offers wider versatility and shorter set-ups
Offering a jaw stroke of more than 50mm per jaw, when compared with the typical power chuck of 5mm, a programmable power chuck provides greater versatility and reduction in setting up times.
The chucks are manufactured at the company's Yorkshire factory using the latest and most appropriate production techniques.
New machine tools have been installed to provide additional machine capacity in the already- busy factory and to also to enable the very large chuck bodies to be machined in house.
Director/general manager, PBI, Peter Simms said: "We have been a market leader in the manufacture of high quality, high accuracy, high productivity chucks and workholding systems for all types of turning and prismatic applications for more than 150 years.
We have maintained a successful business by remaining close to our customers, working with them to develop workholding methods which enable them to compete effectively in their market place.
We have continually invested in research and development, men and machines in order to achieve that.
The big chucks which we are introducing is a reflection of that commitment".
The Pratt Burnerd manufacturing plant also manufactures Crawford Collets and the Dickson Toolpost.
An investment of over GBP 3million has upgraded the factory to set up a 'Centre of Workholding Excellence'.
Compliant with the highest manufacturing and quality control standards, the plant is organised into dedicated manufacturing cells to ensure production efficiency.
A specialist grinding facility was built and equipped with the latest and most appropriate technology for chuck and collet manufacture in 2003.
A sophisticated, computerised manufacturing control system ensures efficient production from receipt of order through to dispatch, ensuring that orders can be tracked easily and competently.
The new range of big chucks is offered in sizes up to 1m, though most popular sizes are in the 24in and 36in ranges.
Bores up to 10.5in diameter are available - particularly relevant to the oil and petroleum industry.
The new chuck range is complementary to the other activities of Pratt Burnerd, which offers a standard range of high quality, price competitive chucks and workholding system as well as manufacturing bespoke systems for complex applications.
With a profound experience of difficult applications, it has a proven track record world-wide.
