Hundreds of UK Members of Parliament, business leaders, students, engineers and academics will converge at the IMechE for the event, 'Inspiring Tomorrow's Engineers'.
Now a leading professional engineer, he was elected the 120th president of IMechE, the UK's qualifying body and natural professional home for mechanical engineers, earlier this year.
He will be visiting Brunel University's Uxbridge site to open a new design studio for students of the new Design Engineering MSc course, which is launched this year.
Ives commented: "Brunel is one of this country's most respected academic homes for engineering, as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers is for professional mechanical engineers.
This is probably my first return to the site where I studied, and, as one of Brunel's first graduates and the first engineering president that the university has produced, I am delighted to be involved in the launch of this site and the new engineering MSc course." The new laboratory has been fully equipped by Niftylift, which produces hydraulic aerial work platforms (known as cherry pickers) and was established 25 years ago by another Brunel engineering graduate, Roger Bowden.
Bowden, who is Niftylift's founder and chairman, added: "We see the new course as being a very valuable step forward for the development of the engineering graduate into a competent and professional design engineer." A spokeswoman for Brunel University said: "The Engineering Design masters course is a new programme developed by Brunel University, taking in to consideration the needs of British industry, students and the mechanical engineering profession.
The support of IMechE and Niftylift is valued tremendously.".
