IMechE Regional Manager, Steve Gasser, who is working with Midland businesses to encourage them to enter the best practice in business scheme, said: "This is a key opportunity for the region's businesses to network and find out how the Awards work and how it will benefit them.
Every firm that enters is entitled to a free benchmarking report that our manufacturing analysts have assessed to be worth over GBP20,000.
The report can be tailored to the size and age of the company, as well as industry sector and resources available to them.
"As well as the benchmark report there is also a free health check visit conducted by the DTI's Manufacturing Advisory Service.
These tools measure a company's effectiveness and highlight any area for improvement, suggesting how they might address these issues." Graeme Allinson, Barclays' UK Corporate Director, will be speaking to firms about securing funding for business.
He said: ""Barclays is proud to be supporting MX.
It is without doubt one of the key benchmarking schemes in the country and gives us an opportunity to work with one of the world's leading engineering institutions and share our expertise with these companies." Entries will be accepted from companies or divisions engauged in manufacturing in the UK, but not necessarily British owned.
Once firms have entered, they will be sent a Self Assessment Audit (SAA), along with advice and guidance documentation.
SAA's must be submitted by 1 March 2007.
A comprehensive assessment process then follows, including a visit to all entering companies and, if short-listed, a presentation to a panel of industry experts.
The winners are then announced at a prestigious Awards Ceremony in London in Jun.
