IO-Link integrated into PROFIBUS and PROFINET
Profibus and Profinet International has published documents concerning the integration of IO-Link into PROFIBUS and PROFINET to enable wider use of IO-Link.
Building on the common standards IEC 11801 and EN 50173 that cover the office area, the new "PROFInet Installation Guideline" specifies the network topology, cabling types and methods, connection technology and network components for use in industrial areas requiring protection to IP67.
It takes into consideration the special requirements of an industrial environment, such as system-specific network structures and cabling, field-wired cabling, high network availability, EMC load and mechanical ruggedness.
Ultimately, the specifications laid down in the PROFInet Installation guideline will be integrated in a new international standard for Ethernet-based industrial installations, currently under development.
