Laser techniques are being used to machine knurling patterns on graphite and copper electrodes, which then can be proiduced in moulding tool suraces utilising a die-sinking EDM machine.

Knurling patterns can be seen on most firearm stocks, industrial tool and knife handles Its popularity, however, has not been an easy marriage with injection-molded parts due to a mold's contoured surface and the pattern's excessive depth range

Consequently, the pattern's aesthetic and functional appeal is compromised.

In response to mold makers' call for pattern integrity and uniformity, Precision Laser Technology (PLT) has developed the ability to laser-machine knurling patterns onto graphite and copper electrodes, which then can be transferred into metal utilising an Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) sinker.

PLT's self-developed engraving techniques allow for knurling textures to be etched onto three-dimensional (3D) surfaces alike.
