Over 20 years experience in the packaging industry has helped Phil Markham to secure a position with the UK manufacturer of tray sealing and filling equipment, Packaging Automation.

Markham has joined Packaging Automation (PA) as technical manager for the volumetric division after 16 years working for Regal Packaging.

He will be responsible for developing the PA's range of filling and sealing equipment.

Packaging Automation said it has just completed the first phase of a five-year business strategy with the launch of the Fastfill100 high speed pot filling, sealing and overcapping machine, the third machine in the Fastfill range.

The company added that Markham has joined PA as it prepares to move forward with phase two of its strategy and further develop that side of the business.

Speaking about his appointment Markham said: "I have already been impressed with the way PA works.

It has a really customer focused approach and a very positive ethos behind all the work it does.

It puts a lot of emphasis on doing things properly - not cutting corners - and that really appeals to me.

He added: "I have two main objectives.

Firstly, to look at ways of enhancing the existing equipment where possible.

It is clearly well designed and operates very well - now I want to get a feel for customers' experiences of using it in the longer term and see if there is anything else we can do to advance its functions.

It is important to know how the equipment operates on a day-to-day basis in the field and review machine performance in the light of this.

Secondly, I will be looking at new equipment development to expand the range.

Packaging Automation's general manager, Mick Davis, said: "The volumetric side of the business is doing well and growing apace, alongside our traditional tray sealing equipment.

We are very confident that Phil brings the right skills and attitude to the business and will really enhance what we are offering.

He has extensive experience in the packaging industry and will fit well with our customer-focused approach.
