A revolutionary new website for British businesseswas unveiled today in London by Lord Sainsbury, UK Minister of State for Science and Innovation.
'Innovation Factory' to give fast-track support
The East Midland's "Innovation Factory", which will provide SMEs within the region with fast track support for business acceleration, is to be launched at the Pera Innovation Park.
Ms Hewitt addressed an audience of over 270 of the region's key industrialists and representatives from support organisations, and took the opportunity to also launch the complementary web-based National Network of Centres of Expertise in Manufacturing (CEMs) - an important part of the wider national MAS service.
The Secretary of State highlighted to delegates why MAS, being established and delivered in partnership with Regional Development Agencies such as emda (East Midlands Development Agency) is considered vital for the UK's manufacturing sector and supports the Government's overall aim to improve productivity.
Of the East Midlands rcme The Secretary of State commented 'Here in the East Midlands, Pera - a world class company providing manufacturers with support in innovation, product development and manufacturing processes - will be delivering the service.
They draw from over fifty years experience of working with manufacturing companies and from strong overseas activities - bringing global knowledge and best practice into the UK and the region.
This is essential if we are to be world class and measure ourselves against our global competitors'.
Pera were chosen by emda to run the regional service because of 'their proven track record both nationally and internationally for manufacturing advice and information' Martin Briggs, Chief Executive of emda.
Working with the Business Links, the service will be available to all 13,000 manufacturing companies across the region.
