Print and apply labelling is ERP-enabled
Fifteen years of unwavering reliability meant a polish manufacturer had no hesitation in selecting a complete ERP-enabled print and apply labelling system from the same supplier.
Based at Park Royal in West London and employing some 250 staff, La Fornaia handles a wide product range from volume ciabatta and focaccia loaves to short-run flatbreads with a variety of toppings.
Therefore, speed of changeover was an important factor in the company's choice of packing machinery.
"We have over 70 different product lines and runs can vary in length from 15 minutes to four hours - 500 packs up to 10,000 - and so the quick, programmable changeover we achieve with the Fuji machines is a major plus point," explained David Harrison, production director.
The Fuji Alpha 3410B wrappers are equipped with gas flushing equipment and box motion jaws to provide extra dwell time for secure seals on the high barrier films and laminates used by La Fornaia.
An electronic memory allows changeover to be made by the operator in three to four minutes.
Once a new product is selected, the machine automatically adjusts itself to match its length, the sealing times and temperatures required and to bring the new printed film into register automatically.
Scale readings for manual adjustment of the side guides, forming box width and entry angle are shown on the touch screen controls.
